Clarinetist Leo Kim has spent his schooling striving for a tone quality in the tradition of the old French school under the tutelage of Daniel Gilbert and Chad Burrow. An avid chamber musician and orchestral clarinetist, Leo has performed in multiple chamber ensembles as well as playing in both the University of Michigan's Symphony and Philharmonic Orchestras—always aspiring to play with a tone like the old masters Marcellus and Bonade. Leo has spent two summers (2018, 2019) at the Sewanee Summer Music Festival playing for renown conductors such as Jacomo Bairos, Robert Moody, Gemma New, and the grammy-winning JoAnn Falletta. In the summer of 2017, Leo made his international debut, touring Europe and performing as a soloist in the Bruges Concertgebouw, Amsterdam Royal Concertgebouw, and also in the Utrecht TivoliVrendenberg as a part of the 2017 WASBE (World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles) Conference. In the future, Leo hopes to win a job and perform in an orchestra. Moreover, he hopes to one day teach clarinet in higher education and continue the rich tradition of clarinet playing that began with H. Klose.
